Nicho

“When you get old, you become a kid again. I watch cartoons on Saturday; the one with the big rooster that says ‘come ere boy!’” Nicho laughed as he tried to remember the name of Looney Tunes’ Foghorn Leghorn. As I clicked the shutter of my camera, knee-slapping stories of his beloved brother and memories of his childhood flooded out of his mind like it was yesterday- every moment in beautiful detail. His wife stepped in to adjust his collar and his eyes stayed carefully fixated on her face, as if to take in every delicate wrinkle and movement. As I listened to them engage in conversation, reminiscing on precious memories, I couldn’t help but be surrounded by a love full of care and respect; a fun relationship woven into deep support. After the shoot, I sat on the floor and stayed for a while to listen to a few more stories. If there’s one thing I learned from Lionesio (Nicho), it’s that no matter what age you are, never lose touch with your quality of life- you only get one.
